White Sox acquire Reese McGuire from Toronto in exchange for Zack Collins

GLENDALE, Ariz. – The Chicago White Sox have acquired catcher Reese McGuire from Toronto in exchange for catcher Zack Collins.

McGuire, 27, batted .253/.310/.343 (50-198) with 15 doubles, one home run, 10 RBI and 22 runs scored over a career-high 78 games with the Blue Jays in 2021. He did not commit an error behind the plate in 523.0 IC and threw out 31.0 percent (9-29) of attempted basestealers.

McGuire, 6-foot and 220 pounds, is a career .248/.297/.390 (91-367) hitter with 25 doubles, nine homers, 26 RBI and 43 runs scored in 141 games over parts of four major-league seasons with Toronto (2018-21). He is a .278/.329/.367 (78-281) hitter over his career against right-handed pitching.

McGuire originally was selected by the Blue Jays in the first round (13th overall) of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of Kentwood High School in Covington, Wash.

Collins, 27, batted .210/.330/.338 (41-195) with 13 doubles, four home runs, 26 RBI, 34 walks and 25 runs scored over 78 games with the White Sox in 2021. He was selected by the Sox in the first round (10th overall) of the 2013 draft out of the University of Miami.
