White Sox announce 2021 player development staff

CHICAGO – The Chicago White Sox have announced their player development staff and assignments for the 2021 season under Chris Getz, who has been promoted to assistant general manager/player development. Getz enters his fifth year overseeing the organization’s minor-league operations and player development system. He served as director of player development from 2017-20.

Wes Helms (Class AAA Charlotte), Justin Jirschele (Class AA Birmingham), Ryan Newman (Class A Winston-Salem), Guillermo Quiroz (Class A Kannapolis) and Ever Magallanes (Arizona Rookie League White Sox) will serve as the organization’s managers in 2021. All five were slated to lead their respective clubs in 2020 prior to the cancellation of the minor-league season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Helms and Quiroz will make their managerial debuts in the White Sox system, while Jirschele (three seasons), Newman (nine) and Magallanes (three) are returning managers.

“After a challenging 2020, we are looking forward to and anticipating a season of development across the entire organization,” Getz said. “The White Sox are very fortunate to have terrific existing relationships in place with all four of our potential affiliates, and we are excited for the eventual return to some type of normalcy in the player development and affiliate world. I am very pleased with the staff we have in place, as we look forward to getting up and running to full speed as soon as conditions allow.”

Everett Teaford will serve as the pitching coordinator after being named to the role prior to the 2020 season. He worked as the assistant pitching coordinator in 2019. J.R. Perdew will be the assistant pitching coordinator, while former White Sox pitcher Donnie Veal will work as the rehab pitching coach based in Arizona.

Other coordinators returning to the organization include Doug Sisson (field, outfield and baserunning), John Orton (catching) and Ryan Johansen (assistant hitting).

As previously announced, Player Development License invitations have been sent to Charlotte, Birmingham, Winston-Salem and Kannapolis, pending the completion of the new player development system approval process. Further updates about the acceptance of license invitations and finalized details about the minor-league and affiliate structure will be issued by Major League Baseball in the coming weeks.
