White Sox announce 2023 player development staff

CHICAGO – The Chicago White Sox have announced their player development staff and assignments for the 2023 season under Chris Getz, assistant general manager/player development. Getz enters his seventh year overseeing the organization’s minor-league operations and player development system. He was promoted to his current role prior to the 2021 season after serving as director of player development from 2017-20.

Justin Jirschele (Class AAA Charlotte), Lorenzo Bundy (Class AA Birmingham), Guillermo Quiroz (Class A Winston-Salem), Patrick Leyland (Class A Kannapolis) and Danny González (Arizona Complex League Sox) will serve as the organization’s managers in 2023. Jirschele (Birmingham in 2022), Bundy (Winston-Salem in 2022), Quiroz (Kannapolis in 2022) and Leyland (ACL Sox in 2022) all were promoted from their managerial posts last season, while González makes his professional managerial debut after serving as a development coach in 2022.

“The group we have assembled to help lead and develop our minor league players, from coordinators to managers and coaches, is as strong of a group as we have had here with diverse backgrounds and high level experience,” said Getz. “We have had a productive off-season with multiple in-person camps and a successful rollout and execution of our new strength and conditioning program. We are well positioned to hit the ground running next month and will continue our goal of getting the most out of our players in preparation for playing in Chicago. I believe the programs we have built in player development reflect the quality of our players and instructors, and I am excited to see our full staff on the field again with our players and the impact their work will have on the 2023 season and beyond.”

Coordinators returning include Doug Sisson (field), Everett Teaford (pitching), Andy Barkett (hitting), Ryan Newman (infield and coach development) and Julio Mosquera (catching). Longtime pitching instructor J.R. Perdew enters his first season as a pitching advisor.

Former White Sox players returning to the organization as coaches and instructors include Nicky Delmonico (Birmingham hitting coach), Danny Farquhar (Birmingham pitching coach) and Donnie Veal (assistant pitching coordinator). Blake Hickman makes his professional coaching debut as the pitching coach with Kannapolis. Hickman is a graduate of the White Sox Amateur City Elite (ACE) program and Simeon Career Academy in Chicago, and pitched in 50 minor-league games with the Sox from 2017-18.
