White Sox announce 2025 player development staff

CHICAGO – The Chicago White Sox have announced their player development staff and assignments for the 2025 season under Paul Janish, director of player development. Janish enters his second year overseeing the organization’s minor-league operations and player development system.

In Janish’s first season in the organization, Class AA Birmingham and Class A Kannapolis qualified for the playoffs, marking the first time since 2012 that two White Sox affiliates reached the postseason. Birmingham went on to win the 2024 Southern League Championship.

Sergio Santos (Class AAA Charlotte), Guillermo Quiroz (Birmingham), Patrick Leyland (Class A Winston-Salem), Chad Pinder (Kannapolis) and Daniel González (Arizona Complex League White Sox) will serve as the organization’s managers in 2025.

Santos returns for his second season as a manager in the White Sox organization and first at Charlotte after winning the 2024 SL Championship with Birmingham. Quiroz enters his first season at the helm of the Barons after managing Winston-Salem in 2023-24. Leyland, who led Kannapolis to the 2024 Carolina League Championship Series, begins his first season with the Dash. Pinder enters his first season as a minor-league manager after playing 13 seasons of professional baseball from 2011-23, including seven (2016-22) with the Oakland Athletics. González returns for his third straight season as manager of the ACL White Sox.

Coordinators returning include Ryan Newman (field/infield), Matt Zaleski (pitching), Curt Hasler (assistant pitching), Alan Zinter (hitting), Danny Santin (assistant hitting) and Julio Mosquera (catching).

Mike Gellinger and Doug Sisson, who were on the Sox major-league coaching staff for the last two months of the 2024 season, have returned to the player development system. Gellinger will serve as the bench coach with the ACL White Sox, while Sisson will serve as a special assistant to the senior vice president/general manager.

Phil Nevin begins his first season as part of the White Sox player development staff, serving as a special assistant. Nevin was the Los Angeles Angels manager from 2022-23 and played in 12 major-league seasons from 1995-2006. Scott Aldred joins the Sox organization as the new Charlotte pitching coach. Aldred pitched in nine seasons in the majors with Detroit (1990-92, ‘96), Colorado (1993), Montreal (1993), Minnesota (1996-97), Tampa Bay (1998-99) and Philadelphia (1999-2000).

According to MLB.com, the White Sox currently have six of the Top 60 prospects in baseball: left-handed pitcher Noah Schultz (No. 16), catcher Kyle Teel (No. 25), left-hander Hagen Smith (No. 30), shortstop Colson Montgomery (No. 37), outfielder Braden Montgomery (No. 54) and catcher Edgar Quero (No. 59).
