White Sox finalize 2023 Opening Day roster
HOUSTON – Prior to tonight’s season opener at Houston, the Chicago White Sox announced the following eight roster moves:
- Selected the contracts of INF Hanser Alberto and OF Oscar Colás;
- Optioned LHP Tanner Banks and INF Jake Burger to Class AAA Charlotte;
- Requested unconditional release waivers on INF Leury García;
- Placed LHP Garrett Crochet (recovery from left elbow surgery) and RHPs Matt Foster (right flexor strain) and Liam Hendriks (cancer treatment) on the 15-day injured list, all retroactive to March 27.
Following the moves, Chicago’s 26-player Opening Day roster includes 13 pitchers, two catchers, seven infielders and four outfielders. The 40-man roster is at 40. A breakdown of the White Sox season-opening roster and injured list is below.
- RHP (11): Dylan Cease, Mike Clevinger, Lucas Giolito, Kendall Graveman, Joe Kelly, Michael Kopech, Jimmy Lambert, Reynaldo López, Lance Lynn, José Ruiz and Gregory Santos
- LHP (2): Aaron Bummer and Jake Diekman
- C (2): Yasmani Grandal and Seby Zavala
- INF (7): Hanser Alberto, Tim Anderson, Elvis Andrus, Romy Gonzalez, Yoán Moncada, Gavin Sheets and Andrew Vaughn
- OF (4): Andrew Benintendi, Oscar Colás, Eloy Jiménez and Luis Robert Jr.
- IL (3): Garret Crochet, Matt Foster and Liam Hendriks (all 15-day)
