White Sox recall A.J. Reed from Class AAA Charlotte

OAKLAND – Prior to tonight’s series opener at Oakland, the Chicago White Sox recalled first baseman A.J. Reed from Class AAA Charlotte.

Reed, 26, was claimed off waivers from Houston on July 8. He batted .224/.329/.469 (43-192) with 11 doubles, 12 home runs, 35 RBI and 33 runs scored over 56 games this season with Class AAA Round Rock in the Astros system. Reed recorded seven home runs, 22 RBI, 19 runs scored and a .987 OPS over 23 games in June.

The 6-foot-4, 270-pound Reed, who bats and throws left handed, owns a career .282/.374/.540 (611-2,163) average with 135 homers, 478 RBI and 392 runs scored over six minor-league seasons. He also appeared in 48 games over parts of three seasons with the Astros (2016-18), hitting .153 (20-131) with three home runs and eight RBI.

Reed, who was selected by the Astros in the second round of the 2014 draft out of the University of Kentucky, will wear uniform No. 24.
