Barehanded Stop and Off-Balanced Throw by* Miguel Rojas of the Los Angeles Dodgers*June 5th at Dodger Stadium – Watch It Here

Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Miguel Rojas earned his first career Play of the Week Award, marking the sixth award for the Dodgers since the inception of the award in 2019. Rojas is the fifth Dodgers player to garner the honor, joining two-time winner Mookie Betts (8/3/2020 & 4/19/2021); Chris Taylor (8/10/2020); AJ Pollock (8/30/2021); and Justin Turner (7/18/2022). With no outs in the top of the third inning, Nick Madrigal hit a ball back towards Roki Sasaki, who deflected it on the mound as Rojas, who was playing second base, chased down the deflection and in a single motion made a barehanded catch and an off-balance throw to record the out as a fully-extended Freddie Freeman received the throw. Additional Play of the Week candidates included Drew Gilbert’s home run robbery; Ernie Clement’s run-saving diving play; MJ Melendez’s great diving catch; Trea Turner’s barehanded play; Tommy Troy’s full-extension diving catch; Edwin Arroyo’s sliding stop in his MLB debut; and Wilyer Abreu’s outfield assist.
