Rangers receive RHP Brady Dragmire from Pittsburgh on waiver claim

The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has received right-handed pitcher Brady Dragmire from the Pittsburgh Pirates on a waiver claim. The club has also sent left-handed pitcher David Rollins to the Philadelphia Phillies on a waiver claim.
Dragmire, 23, was acquired by Pittsburgh from Toronto in an October 5 trade for cash considerations. Primarily a reliever throughout his professional career, he had been in the Toronto organization since being selected by the Blue Jays in the 17th round of the 2011 June draft. Dragmire went 4-6 with a 4.38 ERA (35 ER/72.0 IP) over 45 relief appearances with New Hampshire in the Eastern League in 2016, his first career action at the Double-A level. Over 158 games/8 starts and 287.0 innings in his minor league career, he has produced a 3.61 ERA and 1.244 WHIP, along with averaging 6.2 strikeouts per 9 innings and just 0.6 home runs per 9 frames.
Rollins, who turns 27 years old on December 21, was received from the Chicago Cubs in a November 22 waiver claim. He had been claimed on waivers by the Cubs from the Mariners on November 18. The DeBerry, Texas native saw action with Seattle for a second straight year in 2016, allowing 8 runs over 11 relief appearances and 9.1 innings. He spent the rest of the campaign with Triple-A Tacoma, going 5-0 with 2 saves, a 3.77 ERA (19 ER/45.1 IP), and 0.993 WHIP figure over 37 relief appearances.
After these transactions, the Rangers still have 40 players on the club's major league roster.
