Rangers sign S Mike Ohlman to 2018 Minor League contract

The Rangers today announced the signing of catcher Mike Ohlman a to 2018 minor league contract with an invitation to major league spring training camp. The club also signed infielder Ryan Brett, right-handed pitcher Brandon Cumpton, and left-handed pitcher Brandon Mann to minor league contracts, and all three players will be in minor league camp this spring.
Ohlman, 27, made his major league debut with Toronto last season, appearing in 7 games across 2 stints with the club. The backstop was 3-for-13 with a RBI at the major league level and started 3 games behind the plate for the Jays. Ohlman spent the balance of the season at Triple-A Buffalo, batting .216 (61-282) and matching a career high with 12 home runs. Ohlman was selected by the Orioles in the 11th round of the 2009 June Draft out of Lakewood Ranch High School in Bradenton, Florida and has spent time in the Baltimore (2009-14), St. Louis (2015-16), and Toronto (2017) organizations.
The 26-year-old Brett split last season between Durham (AAA) and Charlotte (A+) in the Tampa Bay organization, batting .284 (21-74) with 2 home runs and 5 RBI over 20 games. He had spent his entire career in the Rays system and made his major league debut with the club in 2015, appearing in 3 games with the club.
Cumpton, 29, returned to the mound last season for the first time since the 2014 season and went 5-4 with a 3.86 ERA (16 ER/37.1 IP) over 24 games/7 starts with Indianapolis (AAA), Altoona (AA), and Bradenton (A+) in the Pittsburgh organization. He owns a 5-5 record with a 4.02 ERA (45 ER/100.2 IP) over 22 games/15 starts at the major league level with the Pirates from 2014-15.
The 33-year-old Mann spent the 2017 campaign in the Oakland organization, going 3-8 with a 4.40 ERA (37 ER/75.2 IP) and 2 saves over 46 games/2 starts with Double-A Midland. He was a 27th round selection by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 2002 June Draft and has spent time in Japan and independent leagues during his 14-year career.
