Rays to Honor Evan Longoria with Hall of Fame Induction and Number Retirement During Longo's Legacy Weekend with Performances by Tantric
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.— The Tampa Bay Rays announced additional details for Longo’s Legacy Weekend, the celebratory dates honoring former Rays third baseman Evan Longoria. The weekend of July 11-12 will feature a Rays Hall of Fame induction ceremony and the official team retirement of Longoria’s No. 3 jersey with special performances by rock band Tantric. Longoria will also participate in a closed community event at a local library as part of the team’s Reading with the Rays program.
As previously announced, Longoria will be inducted into the Rays Hall of Fame on Saturday, July 11 before the 4:10 p.m. scheduled game against the Mariners. The first 10,000 fans in attendance at the game will receive an Evan Longoria snapback hat presented by Union Home Mortgage.
On Sunday, July 12, Longoria's No. 3 will be officially retired by the team, and rock band Tantric will perform a special live rendition of his iconic walk-up song, “Down and Out” used throughout Longoria’s career. Following the game, Ferg’s Sports Bar & Grill will host Tantric for a postgame concert beginning at 5 p.m.
The first 10,000 fans in attendance at Sunday’s game will receive an Evan Longoria bobblecard presented by DEX.
Throughout Longo’s Legacy Weekend, fans can also experience a variety of activities celebrating Longoria’s career. Inside Gate 1 at Tropicana Field, chalk art honoring Longoria will be on display, and a pop-up barbershop will offer Longo-inspired cuts such as the Draft Day cut, the Longo-Hawk, and the Big #3. Fans can also shop for exclusive Longo-themed merchandise at the Bay Republic Team Store inside Tropicana Field.
Specially branded Longo’s Legacy Weekend baseballs will be used in the games throughout the weekend.
“Evan Longoria’s contributions on and off the field were transformative for the Tampa Bay Rays franchise. He delivered countless memorable moments for our fans and set a standard for professionalism that has impacted countless players in our organization,” said Rays President of Baseball Operations Erik Neander. “His legacy in Tampa Bay endures to this day. He helped establish a winning culture and left an indelible mark on this franchise and community. We couldn’t be prouder to induct Evan into the Rays Hall of Fame.”
Longo’s Legacy Weekend will also feature a closed community event as part of the Reading with the Rays program. Reading with the Rays, presented by Suncoast Credit Union, is an incentive-based reading program that encourages students to avoid summer learning loss by reading for at least 24 hours during the summer months. From 2013 to 2017, Longoria led player participation in the program, hosting 12 reading events. During Longo’s Legacy Weekend, Longoria will read books to children at the President Barack Obama Main Library in St. Petersburg. A media advisory with additional details will be shared prior to the event.
