Red Sox Acquire OF/DH Jahmai Jones from Detroit Tigers
BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today acquired outfielder/designated hitter Jahmai Jones from the Detroit Tigers, in exchange for a player to be named later. To make room on the active roster, Boston optioned infielder/outfielder Nate Eaton to Triple-A Worcester.
Jones, 28, hit .137 (13-for-95) with two doubles, two home runs, seven RBI and 10 walks in 57 games for the Tigers this season before being designated for assignment on July 9. In 2025, the right-handed hitter batted .287 (37-for-129) with 11 doubles, a triple, seven home runs, 23 RBI and 18 walks with a .937 OPS in 72 games with Detroit. In four Postseason games, Jones went 1-for-2 with a double, RBI, two walks and two runs scored. A Georgia native, he was originally selected by the Los Angeles Angels in the 2nd round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft and has played in 198 career Major League games with the Angels (2020), Baltimore Orioles (2021), Milwaukee Brewers (2023), New York Yankees (2024) and Tigers (2025-26).
Eaton, 29, has played in 14 games for Boston, making six starts in left field, two in right field, and one in center field. The right-handed hitter has also played in 48 games with Triple-A Worcester, batting .283 (51-for-180). Selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 18th round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft, the Virginia native has hit .221 (60-for-272) in 127 career Major League games with the Royals (2022-23) and Red Sox (2025-26).
