Red Sox Acquire Right-Handed Pitcher Hansel Robles From Minnesota Twins

The Boston Red Sox today acquired right-handed pitcher Hansel Robles and cash considerations from the Minnesota Twins, in exchange for minor league right-handed pitcher Alex Scherff.

Red Sox Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.

Robles, 30, has made 45 appearances with the Twins this season, recording 10 saves with a 4.91 ERA (24 ER/44.0 IP) and 43 strikeouts. The right-hander has pitched in 358 major league games (one start) with the New York Mets (2015-18), Los Angeles Angels (2018-20), and Twins (2021), going 27-22 with 37 saves, a 4.03 ERA (169 ER/377.2 IP), and a .230 opponent batting average. In 2019, Robles recorded career bests in appearances (71), ERA (2.48), and saves (23).

Scherff, 23, has made 23 relief appearances between Double-A Portland and High-A Greenville this season, going 3-1 with a 2.45 ERA (8 ER/29.1 IP). Selected by Boston in the fifth round of the 2017 June Draft, the right-hander is 10-18 with a 4.41 ERA (112 ER/228.2 IP) in 67 minor league appearances (43 starts).
