Red Sox activate OF Jackie Bradley Jr. from 10-day disabled list
Prior to tonight's game against the Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. was returned from his injury rehab assignment with Triple-A Pawtucket and activated from the 10-day disabled list. To make room on the 25-man roster, the club placed infielder/outfielder Brock Holt on the 10-day disabled list with vertigo.
President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski made the announcement.
Bradley, who turned 27 on Thursday, appeared in two rehab games with the PawSox, going 1-for-5 with a home run and two walks. He was placed on the disabled list on April 11 (retroactive to April 9) with a right knee sprain after starting each of the Red Sox' first four games of the 2017 season, going 4-for-14 (.286) with a triple, two walks, two RBI, one stolen base, and three runs scored. In 2016, he started the All-Star Game in left field and was named a finalist for the Rawlings Gold Glove Award in center field. Bradley hit .267 (149-for-558) with 30 doubles, seven triples, 26 home runs, 87 RBI, and an .835 OPS last season, while his 13 assists led major league center fielders. From April 24-May 25, 2016, he batted .415 (44-for-106) during a 29-game hitting streak.
Holt, 28, has gone 2-for-15 (.091) with one run, one RBI, four walks, and a .333 on-base percentage in five games with the Red Sox so far this season, including one start each at left field and third base. Over parts of six major league seasons with the Pirates (2012) and the Red Sox (2013-17), the 2015 All-Star has hit .270 (359-for-1,328) with 185 runs scored, 70 doubles, 12 triples, 13 home runs, 123 RBI, and 25 stolen bases. In 489 minor league games since being drafted by Pittsburgh as a ninth-round selection in the 2009 June Draft, Holt has a .308 average (572-for-1,860) and a .373 on-base percentage with 261 runs, 103 doubles, 21 triples, 15 home runs, 183 RBI, and 64 stolen bases.
