Red Sox Announce Roster Moves
BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today announced the following roster moves:
Reinstated right-handed pitcher Garrett Whitlock from the 15-Day Injured List.
Optioned right-handed pitcher Wyatt Olds to Triple-A Worcester after last night’s game against the New York Yankees.
Appointed left-handed pitcher Raymond Burgos as the club’s 27th man for today’s doubleheader against the New York Yankees.
Whitlock, 30, was placed on the Injured List on August 13 (retroactive to August 10) with right elbow inflammation. The right-hander is 6-1 with a 2.05 ERA (10 ER/44.0 IP) and 49 strikeouts in 45 appearances this season for Boston. Originally selected by the New York Yankees in the 18th round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft, the Georgia native owns a 2.99 ERA (119 ER/357.2 IP) with 392 strikeouts in 210 career Major League games (23 starts), all with the Red Sox (2021-26).
Olds, 27, retired the side in the eighth inning last night against the Yankees. He has tossed 6.0 innings without allowing an earned run in six appearances for Boston this season, his Major League debut. The right-hander has also posted a 5.33 ERA (30 ER/50.2 IP) with 74 strikeouts in 39 games this year for Worcester. Selected by the Red Sox in the seventh round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft, the Oklahoma native owns a 5.88 ERA (254 ER/389.0 IP) with 489 strikeouts in 185 career minor league games (42 starts).
Burgos, 27, owns a 2.70 ERA (3 ER/10.0 IP) in three appearances for Boston this season. He has also pitched in 17 games (15 starts) for Worcester, recording a 5.14 ERA (40 ER/70.0 IP) with 58 strikeouts. Originally selected by Cleveland in the 18th round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft, the Puerto Rico native owns a 3.27 ERA (4 ER/11.0 IP) in four career Major League games with the San Francisco Giants (2024) and Red Sox (2026).
