Red Sox announce roster moves
LONDON – Prior to tonight’s game against the New York Yankees, the Boston Red Sox made the following roster moves:
- Left-handed pitcher Brian Johnson was placed on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to June 27, with a non-baseball related medical matter that was discovered during routine testing by the club’s medical staff. Johnson is expected to return to pitching this season.
- To fill Johnson’s spot on the 25-man roster, right-handed pitcher Hector Velázquez was reinstated from the 10-day injured list.
- First baseman/outfielder Sam Travis was appointed as the Red Sox’ 26th man during the London Series against the Yankees. Catcher óscar Hernández also traveled with the team for the two-game series.
President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski made the announcement.
The Red Sox will take on the Yankees today, Saturday, June 29, at London Stadium, with first pitch scheduled for 6:10 p.m. local time (1:10 p.m. ET). The two teams will also play Sunday, June 30, with first pitch set for 3:10 p.m. local time (10:10 a.m. ET). The Red Sox will serve as the home team for both games.
Per Major League Baseball, both clubs were allowed to travel with 28 players for the London Series, with 26 players on the active roster for each game.
The Red Sox’ 2019 London Series 26-man roster is as follows:
