RED SOX ANNOUNCE WINNERS OF 2025 MINOR LEAGUE AWARDS
BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today announced the winners of the organization’s 2025 Minor League Awards:
Pitcher of the Year: LHP Payton Tolle
Offensive Player of the Year: OF Jhostynxon Garcia
Defensive Player of the Year: INF Ahbram Liendo
Baserunner of the Year: OF Miguel Bleis
Latin Program Position Player of the Year: INF/OF Josue Brito
Latin Program Pitcher of the Year: RHP Angelo Ladera
Additionally, right-handed pitcher Hunter Dobbins has been recognized as the 2025 recipient of the Lou Gorman Award. Created in 2011, the award is given annually to a Red Sox minor league player who has demonstrated dedication and perseverance in overcoming obstacles while working his way to the Major League team.
The 2025 Minor League Awards are selected by the Red Sox baseball operations department and minor league roving instructors. The recipients will be honored during a pre-game, on-field ceremony at Fenway Park tomorrow prior to Boston’s 7:10 p.m. game against the Detroit Tigers.
Tolle, 22, is ranked by MLB.com and Baseball America as the Red Sox’ No. 2 prospect and top pitching prospect, as well as a top 50 overall prospect by both outlets (No. 27, No. 38). The left-hander posted a 3.04 ERA (31 ER/91.2 IP) with a 0.99 WHIP and 13.06 strikeouts per 9.0 innings pitched (133 strikeouts) over three minor league levels during his first professional season. He pitched in 11 games (10 starts) for High-A Greenville, six games (five starts) for Double-A Portland, and three games (all starts) for Worcester, before being selected to the active Major League roster on August 29 and making his Major League debut that night against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Oklahoma native has made six appearances (three starts) for the Red Sox in 2025, recording a 6.46 ERA (11 ER/15.1 IP) with 18 strikeouts. Selected by the Red Sox in the second round of the 2024 First-Year Player Draft, he was signed by Chris Reilly.
Garcia, 22, is ranked among the Red Sox’ top five prospects by both MLB.com (No. 3) and Baseball America (No. 5), as well as a top 100 overall prospect by both outlets (No. 73, No. 76). The right-handed hitter split the season between Double-A Portland (33 games), Triple-A Worcester (81 games), and Boston (five games). In 114 minor league games, he hit .267 (116-for-434) with 17 doubles, four triples, 21 home runs, 79 runs scores, 75 RBI, 45 walks, and seven stolen bases, leading all Red Sox minor leaguers in home runs, runs scored, and total bases (204). The Venezuela native made his Major League debut on August 22 against the New York Yankees and made two starts in right field for Boston and one in left field. Garcia was signed as an international free agent in July 2019 by Rolando Pino and Eddie Romero.
Liendo, 21, played in 120 games for Double-A Portland, making 75 starts at third base, 22 at shortstop, 19 at second base, and one in center field. The right-handed hitter turned 37 double plays and only made 17 errors across 380 total chances, while batting .239 (97-for-406) with 12 doubles, two triples, four home runs, 32 RBI, 48 walks, and 42 stolen bases. The Venezuela native was signed by Wilder Lobo, Alex Requena, and Eddie Romero as an international free agent in January 2021.
Bleis, 21, is ranked by MLB.com as the Red Sox’ No. 15 prospect. The right-handed hitter played in 107 games between High-A Greenville (77 games) and Double-A Portland (30 games), batting .222 (88-for-397) with 21 doubles, one triple, 14 home runs, 51 RBI, 58 runs scored, 41 walks, and 27 stolen bases. The Dominican Republic native ranked fifth among all Red Sox minor leaguers in stolen bases, going 20-for-24 (83.3%) in stolen base attempts with Greenville and 27-for-33 (81.8%) overall this season. Bleis was signed as an international free agent in January 2021 by Jonathan Cruz and Eddie Romero.
Brito, 18, batted .284 (31-for-109) in 43 games for the Dominican Summer League Red Sox Blue, leading the team in RBI (30), walks (41) and extra-base hits (17). He ranked among DSL leaders in slugging percentage (second, .606), OPS (second, 1.103), HR (third, nine), and on-base percentage (fifth, .497). The Venezuela native made 20 starts at first base, 12 in left field, seven in right field, and one as the designated hitter. Brito was signed as an international free agent in January 2024 by Wilder Lobo and Rolando Pino.
Ladera, 18, pitched in 12 games (three starts) for the Dominican Summer League Red Sox Red, going 5-1 with a 2.20 ERA (8 ER/32.2 IP), 1.01 WHIP, .164 opponent average (18-for-110), and 36 strikeouts. The right-hander allowed just one home run all season, and held opponents to one or zero runs in 10 of his 12 outings. The Venezuela native pitched 16.2 consecutive scoreless innings beginning on July 18 through the fourth inning on August 16, allowing just five hits and seven walks over that span while striking out 17 batters. Ladera was signed as an international free agent in February 2025 by Wilder Lobo and Rolando Pino.
Dobbins, 26, began the season with Triple-A Worcester before making his Major League debut on April 6, in Game Two of the Red Sox’ doubleheader against the St. Louis Cardinals. The right-hander went 4-1 with a 4.13 ERA (28 ER/61.0 IP) in 13 games (11 starts) for Boston before suffering a right ACL tear in his start on July 11 against the Tampa Bay Rays. He underwent successful right anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) revision surgery on August 12. Dobbins was named 2024 Red Sox Minor League Starting Pitcher of the Year, and entered this season ranked by Baseball America as the Red Sox No. 11 prospect and No. 4 pitching prospect. The Texas native was selected by Boston in the eighth round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft out of Texas Tech University, where he missed his final season after undergoing Tommy John Surgery in March 2021. He was signed by Chris Reilly.
