Red Sox Appoint LHP Alec Gamboa as 27th Man for Today’s Doubleheader
BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox have appointed left-handed pitcher Alec Gamboa as the club’s 27th man for today’s doubleheader against the Tampa Bay Rays at Fenway Park. Per Major League Baseball rules, both teams are permitted to add an extra player for today’s games.
Gamboa, 29, has made four appearances for Boston this season, his Major League debut, striking out four batters and allowing two runs over 5.0 innings. The left-hander has also pitched in 15 games (six starts) for Triple-A Worcester this year, recording a 3.63 ERA (18 ER/44.2 IP) with 43 strikeouts. Originally selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the ninth round of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft, the California native owns a 4.16 ERA (187 ER/404.1 IP) in 146 career minor league games (47 starts).
