Red Sox Place RHP Garrett Whitlock on 15-Day IL

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today placed right-handed pitcher Garrett Whitlock on the 15-Day Injured List (retroactive to August 10) with right elbow inflammation. To fill his spot, Boston recalled right-handed pitcher Greg Weissert from Triple-A Worcester.

Whitlock, 30, has pitched in 45 games for Boston this season, going 6-1 with 21 holds, a 2.05 ERA (10 ER/44.0 IP), 49 strikeouts, a 0.89 WHIP and a .203 opponent batting average (32-for-158). Originally selected by the New York Yankees in the 18th round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft, the Georgia native owns a 2.99 ERA (119 ER/357.2 IP) with 392 strikeouts in 210 career Major League games (23 starts), all with Boston (2021-26).

Weissert, 31, has pitched in 48 games for Boston this season, going 3-2 with a 3.97 ERA (20 ER/45.1 IP) and 44 strikeouts. Selected by the New York Yankees in the 18th round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft, the New York native owns a 3.43 ERA (79 ER/207.0 IP) with 192 strikeouts in 211 career Major League games with the Yankees (2022-23) and Red Sox (2024-26).
