Red Sox Recall LHP Alec Gamboa from Triple-A Worcester

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today recalled left-handed pitcher Alec Gamboa from Triple-A Worcester. To make room, Boston designated right-handed pitcher Seth Martinez for assignment.

The Red Sox’ 40-man roster is now at 37.

Gamboa, 29, has made seven appearances for Boston this season, his Major League debut, posting a 2.08 ERA (3 ER/13.0 IP) with 12 strikeouts. The left-hander has also pitched in 17 games (eight starts) for Worcester, recording a 3.68 ERA (21 ER/51.1 IP) with 47 strikeouts. Originally selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the ninth round of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft, the California native owns a 4.16 ERA (190 ER/411.0 IP) in 148 career minor league games (49 starts).

Martinez, 31, pitched the eighth inning in last night’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays. The right-hander has also posted a 5.55 ERA (37 ER/60.0 IP) with 49 strikeouts in 33 games (nine starts) for Worcester this season. Originally selected by the Athletics in the 17^th round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft, the Arizona native owns a 4.03 ERA (65 ER/145.0 IP) with 127 strikeouts in 118 career Major League games with the Houston Astros (2021-24), Miami Marlins (2025), and Red Sox (2026).
