Red Sox Recall LHP Jake Bennett from Triple-A Worcester
BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today recalled left-handed pitcher Jake Bennett from Triple-A Worcester. To make room, Boston optioned left-handed pitcher Alec Gamboa to Triple-A Worcester.
Bennett, 25, will start today against the Tampa Bay Rays. The left-hander has made two starts for Boston this year, his Major League debut, allowing five runs across 10.1 innings with four strikeouts. He has also made nine starts for Worcester this season, going 3-2 with a 1.60 ERA (7 ER/39.1 IP), nine walks, 41 strikeouts, a 1.02 WHIP, and a .214 opponent batting average (31-for-145). Originally selected by the Washington Nationals in the second round of the 2022 First-Year Player Draft, the Oklahoma native was acquired by the Red Sox in a trade on December 15, 2025, and owns a 2.43 ERA (48 ER/177.2 IP) with 178 strikeouts in 43 career minor league games (42 starts).
Gamboa, 29, has retired all five batters faced across two appearances for Boston this season, his Major League debut. The left-hander has also pitched in eight games (six starts) for Worcester this year, recording a 3.66 ERA (13 ER/32.0 IP) with 30 strikeouts. Originally selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the ninth round of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft, the California native owns a 4.18 ERA (182 ER/391.2 IP) in 139 career minor league games (47 starts).
