Red Sox Recall RHP Jedixson Paez
BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today recalled right-handed pitcher Jedixson Paez. To make room, Boston optioned left-handed pitcher Raymond Burgos following the first game of today’s doubleheader against the Chicago Cubs.
Paez, 22, has pitched in four Major League games (one start) this season with the Chicago White Sox (three games) and Red Sox (one start), his Major League debut, allowing 14 runs with three strikeouts over 6.2 innings. The right-hander has also posted a 3.69 ERA (29 ER/70.2 IP) with 82 strikeouts in 22 games (12 starts) between Double-A Portland (17 games, seven starts) and Triple-A Worcester (five starts) this season. Signed by Boston as an international free agent in January 2021, the Venezuela native owns a 3.31 ERA (139 ER/378.1 IP) with a 1.05 WHIP and 389 strikeouts in 95 career minor league games (70 starts).
Burgos, 27, earned his second save of the season in the first game of today’s doubleheader against the Cubs, tossing 2.0 scoreless innings. The left-hander owns a 4.22 ERA (10 ER/21.1 IP) in nine appearances for Boston this season. He has also pitched in 17 games (15 starts) for Worcester, recording a 5.14 ERA (40 ER/70.0 IP) with 58 strikeouts. Originally selected by Cleveland in the 18th round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft, the Puerto Rico native owns a 4.43 ERA (11 ER/22.1 IP) in 10 career Major League games with the San Francisco Giants (2024) and Red Sox (2026).
