Royals announce Baseball Operations additions

The Kansas City Royals today announced Alec Zumwalt has been promoted to Director of Baseball Operations and Albert Gonzalez is rejoining the organization as Assistant General Manager of International Operations.
Zumwalt joined the Royals as a Pro Scout in 2011 and quickly transitioned to serve as Major League Advance Scout for the last five seasons, including his preparation for the Royals to make their run through the postseasons of both 2014 and 2015. The North Carolina native was a fourth round pick of the Atlanta Braves in 1999 and played for 10 minor league seasons with four organizations prior to joining the Royals in December 2011.
"Alec has earned the universal respect of everybody in the organization, not only because of his baseball knowledge, but his ability to work with others," said Dayton Moore, Royals Senior Vice President of Baseball Operations and General Manager. "In this new role, Alec will be working closely with the entire Baseball Operations department."
Alec is married to Kristin and together they have five children, including four boys, Xander, Brooks, Keelen, and Trace, and a daughter, Kaia. The Zumwalt family will relocate from North Carolina to KC.
Gonzalez's career in baseball began with Kansas City in 1994, when he was hired by then Scouting Director, Art Stewart, as an Associate Scout. He transitioned to a full-time scouting position and then was named the Latin American Scouting Coordinator in 1998, working in that role through December, 2005. A South Florida native, Gonzalez then spent the past 12 years running the Marlins' Dominican Academy and Scouting/Player Development efforts abroad.
"I'm thrilled that Albert has accepted our invitation to return to his original organization, serving our International Operation," said Moore. "I look forward to his contributions in what is already a strong and productive area of the organization."
Albert, who was born in Miami and raised in Hialeah, graduated from Nova Southeastern in 1995. He is married to Heather and has two daughters, Shelby and Amanda. He will be working out of his home in Coral Springs, FL.
