Royals in the community
The Kansas City Royals will host the Detroit Tigers (September 26-28) and Arizona Diamondbacks (September 29-October 1) during the last regular season homestand of the season. The Royals will also host the Dream Factory (September 27), Pediatric Cancer Awareness Night (September 29) and Special Day at The K (October 1).
Tuesday, September 26 - Detroit Tigers vs. Royals, 7:15 p.m.
• Royals Charities/5K Check Presentation - Royals Charities will celebrate raising a record $120,000 through its 5K Run/Walk in August. Price Chopper will present a check to Royals Charities for its role as presenting sponsor of the event.
• 50/50 Raffle presented by Edelman & Thompson - A portion of the proceeds raised from the night's 50/50 Raffle will support the Jackson County Children's Emergency Fund.
• Baseball Tomorrow Fund Check Presentation - The Baseball Tomorrow Fund will present a check to Cristo Rey Kansas City to support its baseball program. (See details on the Royals Equipment Day on Thursday.)
• Kennedys Brings Back Charity Group - Because of a rainout earlier this season, pitcher Ian Kennedy and his wife, Allison, are hosting a makeup visit for T.A.P.S. (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors) in a fully-catered Hall of Fame Suite.
Wednesday, September 27 - Detroit Tigers vs. Royals, 7:15 p.m.
• Dream Factory - Throughout the season, the Royals grant the wishes of Dream Factory children. These youngsters, who face life-altering challenges, will meet Royals players, watch batting practice from the dugout and enjoy the game and refreshments. Their Royals experience appears on the KMBC-TV (Channel 9) 10 p.m. newscast.
• Royals Charities/Bats Check Presentation - Royals Charities, in partnership with Bats Global Markets, will present a check to Habitat for Humanity Kansas City.
Thursday, September 28 - Detroit Tigers vs. Royals, 7:15 p.m.
• Royals Equipment Day - In support of the ongoing commitment from Major League Baseball, its clubs and players to increase opportunities for youth participation in baseball and softball, the Royals and pitcher Kelvin Herrera are teaming up with the Baseball Tomorrow Fund to host Royals Equipment Day. From 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., fans are invited to donate new and used baseball and softball equipment to benefit the Cristo Rey Kansas City baseball program. Volunteers will be stationed outside the Royals Charities Headquarters and Guest Services on the Plaza Level.Royals Charities, in partnership with Bats Global Markets, will present a check to Habitat for Humanity Kansas City.
• Royals Charities/JDRF Check Presentation - Royals Charities, in partnership with Sun Life Financial, will present a check for $20,000 to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Kansas City. Every 23 seconds, someone in the U.S. is diagnosed with diabetes. For each strikeout thrown by a Royals pitcher this season, Sun Life donated $23 - up to $20,000 - to support to JDRF Kansas City's Bag of Hope program. The program provides a backpack full of resources and educational material for newly-diagnosed children and families.
• Royals Charities/Edelman & Thompson Check Presentation - Royals Charities, in partnership with the presenting sponsor of the 50/50 Raffle, Edelman & Thompson, will present a ceremonial check for $750,000 representing the funds raised through the 50/50 Raffle during the 2017 regular season. These funds will be distributed to area organizations supporting children, education, youth baseball and softball, and military families through the Royals Charities fall grant cycle. Friday, September 29 - Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Royals, 7:15 p.m.
• Minor League Award Winners Make Community Appearances - The Royals Minor League Pitcher and Player of the Year award winners will tour the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum and then will visit patients at The University of Kansas Hospital during the day before being recognized during the evening's pregame ceremonies.
• Pediatric Cancer Awareness Night - The Royals and Royals Charities team up with Major League Baseball and four local pediatric cancer charities to honor survivors and raise awareness for pediatric cancer. The University of Kansas Health System, Pinky Swear Foundation, Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, Noah's Bandage Project and Braden's Hope for Childhood Cancer will all be on hand at The K to share information and accept donations. Proceeds from the Royals Charities 50/50 Raffle will support pediatric cancer awareness initiatives.
• Noah's Bandage Collection - Noah's Bandage Project will be collecting fun and colorful bandages at the Royals Charities Headquarters, Guest Services on the Plaza Level and at a table inside Gate A until first pitch.
Saturday, September 30 - Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Royals, 6:15 p.m.
• Royals Charities/Ace 30 Check Presentation - Charlie Hustle and Pepsi will present a check to the Royals Charities ACE 30 Memorial Fund in honor of the late Yordano Ventura. A portion of the proceeds from the "Moose Tee" shirt sales throughout the season will support baseball-related projects in the Dominican Republic.
• Kennedys Host Charity Group - Pitcher Ian Kennedy and his wife, Allison, have hosted a different community group in a fully-catered Dugout Suite during each Saturday home game this season. This game, the Kennedys will host members of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars. Their guests will watch batting practice from the suite and visit with Kennedy prior to the game. The Kennedys also will give each guest a special Royals gift.
Sunday, October 1 - Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Royals, 2:15 p.m.
• Special Day at the "K" - Rex and Jennifer Hudler's Team Up for Down Syndrome raises public awareness both locally and nationally on the positive contributions that individuals with Down Syndrome make to society.
• Royals Charities/Alex's Lemonade Stand Check Presentation - Royals Charities, in partnership with Aramark, will present a check to the Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation. Throughout the season, Aramark donates proceeds from lemonade sales at Kauffman Stadium to ALSF, and a matching donation is provided by Royals Charities.
