Royals to play exhibition game at Omaha's Werner Park in 2019

The Kansas City Royals and Omaha Storm Chasers announced today that the clubs will play an exhibition game at Werner Park in Omaha, Neb., on Monday, March 25, 2019, with first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m. The game will be prior to the start of the 2019 regular season for both clubs. The Royals and Storm Chasers were scheduled to play this past March 26, but the game was postponed due to frigid weather conditions and rain.
"The Omaha community, Storm Chaser front office and their ownership has had an amazing and impactful influence on the success of the Kansas City Royals," said Dayton Moore, Royals Senior Vice President of Baseball Operations and General Manager. "As soon as the decision was made to postpone the exhibition earlier this year, my first priority was to make good on returning to Omaha for our fans in that area. We are proud of the association we have and thrilled to play at Werner Park next spring."
The game would mark the first time the Royals have played at Werner Park and the first time playing a contest against their Triple-A affiliate since 2000, when the Omaha franchise was known as the "Golden Spikes."
Ticketholders to the cancelled 2018 game will have first opportunity for an exclusive pre-sale for tickets to the 2019 contest and will be provided more details by the Storm Chasers organization this week.
"As an organization that prides itself on its strong relationships with its minor league affiliates we are proud to bring a Major League exhibition game to Omaha. Obviously we attempted to do this in 2018 but were unable to do so because of inclement weather, hopefully Mother Nature will be a little kinder to us in 2019," said Scott Sharp, Royals Vice President/Assistant General Manager of Baseball Operations.
Like the Royals, the Storm Chasers are in their 50th season, serving as Kansas City's Triple-A affiliate for their entire existence, which is the third-longest current affiliation in Major League Baseball. During their partnership with Kansas City, Omaha has won 16 division titles, seven league championships and three Triple-A National Championships, including back-to-back national titles in 2013-14. The Chasers have played at Werner Park since it opened on April 16, 2011.
