Seth Hernandez And Edward Florentino To Represent Pirates Organization At All-Star Futures Game

Pittsburgh Pirates right-handed pitcher Seth Hernandez and outfielder Edward Florentino have been named to the National League roster for this season’s All-Star Futures Game. The 27th edition of the Futures Game will be played on Sunday, July 12 at Philadelphia’s Citizens Bank Park.

The 20-year-old Hernandez, who is currently rated by both Baseball America and MLB Pipeline as the No. 6 prospect in baseball, has gone a combined 6-1 with a 2.02 ERA (62.1ip/14er), 100 strikeouts (the second most in Minor League Baseball), a .159 batting average against and a 0.99 WHIP in 14 starts split between Low-A Bradenton (six starts) and High-A Greensboro (eight starts) during his first professional season.

Hernandez, who was selected by Pittsburgh out of Corona (CA) High School in the first round (sixth overall) of the 2025 First-Year Player Draft, was the Florida State League’s April Pitcher of the Month and went 3-0 with a 0.96 ERA (28.0ip/3er) and 50 strikeouts from April 3-May 8 with Bradenton. He was promoted to Greensboro, where he has gone 3-1 with a 2.88 ERA (34.1ip/11er) and 50 strikeouts, on May 12.

The 19-year-old Florentino, who is currently rated by both Baseball America (No. 30) and MLB Pipeline (No. 31) as a top-35 prospect in baseball, has seven doubles, 10 homers, 38 RBI, 42 walks, an .807 OPS and 46 runs in 53 games split between Bradenton (nine games) and Greensboro (44 games) this year.

Florentino, who was signed by Pittsburgh as a non-drafted free agent on January 15, 2024, was named the 2025 Florida Complex League’s “Top MLB Prospect” after hitting .347 (33-for-95) with a 1.084 OPS in 29 games from May 3-June 20 with the Rookie-Level FCL Pirates. He was promoted to Bradenton, where he became a Florida State League All-Star (post-season) after going 51-for-195 (.262) with 17 doubles, 10 home runs, 36 RBI, 33 walks, 29 steals, an .883 OPS and 37 runs in 54 games with the Marauders, on June 21.
