Ten Arizona students awarded four-year college scholarships through D-backs Avnet STEM Scholars program, in partnership with St. Vincent de Paul
What began as a day watching the D-backs at Chase Field became something far greater for ten Arizona students, who were surprised with life-changing news as each received a four-year college scholarship through the D-backs Avnet STEM Scholars Program, which boasts 43 student scholars since 2023.
The surprise ceremony, held pregame on Saturday, April 18 and led by D-backs President, CEO & General Partner Derrick Hall, Avnet CEO Phil Gallagher and St. Vincent de Paul CEO Shannon Clancy, celebrated the program’s fourth annual class and the resilience, ambition and potential each student represents. Each scholarship recipient was also equipped for the road ahead with a personalized D-backs jersey, laptop, backpack, headphones and a $500 gift card for school supplies.
The D-backs Avnet STEM Scholars Program, in partnership with St. Vincent de Paul, expands opportunities for high-potential, first-generation Arizona students pursuing college degrees and careers in STEM fields. In 2023, the D-backs and Avnet committed $2 million in college scholarships to launch the program, awarding four-year scholarships to students planning to attend Arizona colleges and universities.
