Twins sign right-handed pitcher Fernando Rodney to one-year contract
The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have signed right-handed pitcher Fernando Rodney to a one-year contract with a club option for the 2019 season.
Rodney, 40, spent the 2017 season as Arizona's closer converting 39 saves and posting a record of 5-4 with a 4.23 ERA (55.1 IP, 26 ER), 26 walks and 65 strikeouts in 53 appearances. The Dominican Republic native has played in parts of 15 major league seasons with Detroit (2002-2009), Los Angeles-AL (2010-11), Tampa Bay (2012-13), Seattle (2014-15), Chicago-NL (2015), San Diego (2016), Miami (2016) and Arizona (2017). In 828 career appearances he has posted a record of 44-63 with 300 saves, a 3.73 ERA (821.0 IP, 340 ER), 404 walks and 824 strikeouts.
Rodney was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by Detroit in November of 1997. He is a three-time All-Star (2012, 2014, 2016) and was named the 2012 Delivery Man of the Year and AL Comeback Player of the Year.
The Twins 40-man roster is now at 39.
