Washington Nationals recall right-handed pitcher Luis Perales

The Washington Nationals recalled right-handed pitcher Luis Perales from Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday and optioned right-handed pitcher Jake Bird to Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday. Nationals President of Baseball Operations Paul Toboni made the announcements.

Perales, 23, joins the Nationals after throwing 6.0 scoreless innings and striking out 12 hitters in his last three appearances for Rochester. He allowed only two hits and two walks during this stretch. Perales went 7-5 with a 3.64 ERA and a .199 opponents’ average in 25 games (19 starts) in his first season in Washington’s system. He tallied 97 strikeouts in 96.1 innings pitched.

A native of Guacara, Venezuela, Perales entered the season as Washington’s No. 12 prospect according to MLBPipeline.com and its No. 8 prospect, per Baseball America. Through six professional seasons (2021-26), he has posted 11.26 strikeouts and 0.75 home runs per 9.0 innings. He is 13-16 with a 3.43 ERA, 325 strikeouts and a .211 opponents’ batting average in 72 professional games (62 starts). Perales was acquired from the Boston Red Sox on Dec. 15, 2025.
