White Sox Recall Scott Carroll from Triple-A Charlotte

Prior to tonight's game vs. Minnesota, the Chicago White Sox recalled right-handed pitcher Scott Carroll from Class AAA Charlotte and sent catcher Alex Avila on an injury rehabilitation assignment to Charlotte. Carroll takes the roster spot of right-hander Erik Johnson, who was optioned to the Knights following last night's game.
Carroll, 31, has appeared in three games with Charlotte this season, going 0-1 with a 12.27 ERA (5 ER/3.2 IP). He made 18 relief appearances with the White Sox last season, going 1-1 with a 3.44 ERA (14 ER/36.2 IP). Carroll made 11 appearances of 2.0-plus IP in 2015, including a career-high 4.2 IP on May 9 vs. Cincinnati.
Avila, 29, has been on the 15-day disabled list since April 24 with a strained right hamstring. He is hitting .214 (6-28) with one double and five walks this season, his first with the White Sox after signing as a free agent on December 4, 2015.
