Yankees Roster Moves - 8/31/26

Earlier today, the Yankees claimed RHP John Schreiber off waivers from the Kansas City Royals.

Schreiber, 32, has gone 1-3 with one save and a 3.65 ERA (49.1IP, 23R/20ER, 22BB, 36K, 7HR) in 55 relief appearances with the Kansas City Royals this season. He has limited right-handed batters to a .143/.184/.231 (13-for-91) slash line in 2026. Over his last 47 appearances (since April 19), Schreiber has posted a 3.14 ERA (43.0IP, 15ER) over that stretch.

Over parts of eight Major League seasons with the Detroit Tigers (2019-20), Boston Red Sox (2021-23) and Kansas City Royals (2024-26), Schreiber has gone 16-15 with 13 saves and a 3.65 ERA (308.1IP, 271H, 137R/125ER, 114BB, 309K, 32HR) in 327 career relief appearances (two starts). In his career, he has held right-handed batters to a .209/.271/.319 (143-for-684) slash line. Since 2022, his 296 relief appearances rank second in the American League and his 274.2 innings pitched rank fifth among relievers.

The Wyandotte, Mich., native was originally selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 15th round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft. Schreiber was claimed off waivers by the Boston Red Sox on February 18, 2021. He was acquired by the Kansas City Royals from Boston in exchange for RHP David Sandlin on February 17, 2024.

Additionally, RHP Justin Topa elected free agency in lieu of accepting an outright assignment.
