Here’s the Giants’ Spring Breakout roster (Thurs., 6 p.m. PT)

3:50 PM UTC

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- The future of the Giants will be on display on Thursday, when the organization’s top prospects are set to team up for their Spring Breakout game at Scottsdale Stadium.

Here’s everything you need to know about the annual prospect showcase:

What is Spring Breakout?

In 2026, MLB Spring Breakout will again be a four-day event showcasing baseball’s future -- the current stars of Minor League Baseball – in 16 exhibition games played between teams composed of each MLB organization’s top prospects. The third edition will be held from March 19-22 at Grapefruit and Cactus League stadiums during Spring Training.

In 2027, Spring Breakout will be expanded into a single-elimination tournament format, with champions being crowned in both the Grapefruit and Cactus leagues.

When is the Giants’ game?

The Giants’ contingent will take on a team of Reds prospects on Thursday at 6:05 p.m. PT at Scottsdale Stadium. The game time was moved to the evening due to high temperatures in the desert this week.

Notable position players

The Giants’ farm system is loaded with middle-infield prospects, though the most highly touted of the bunch, shortstop Josuar Gonzalez (the Giants’ No. 2 prospect per MLB Pipeline), is expected to miss Spring Breakout due to an injury. Still, San Francisco is expected to showcase another promising up-the-middle duo in fellow teenage shortstop Luis Hernández (No. 3) and 2025 first-round Draft pick Gavin Kilen (No. 5).

Hernández, 17, was the prize of the Giants’ international signing class this year, landing a $4,997,500 bonus in January thanks to his polish at the plate. When he was 15, he hit .346 in 104 at-bats against much older and more experienced competition in the Venezuelan Major League, including going 16-for-49 (.327) against pitchers who had played in the big leagues or Triple-A.

Kilen, 21, was limited to only 10 games at Single-A San Jose last year due to a hip issue, but he was a first-team All-American at second base while playing for Tony Vitello at the University of Tennessee in 2025 and has some of the best bat-to-ball skills in the organization.

Notable pitchers

The strength of the Giants’ system lies in their young position players, but the organization has a few intriguing arms coming down the pipeline, as well.

Right-hander Keyner Martinez (No. 11) and left-hander Luis De La Torre (No. 17) will also be worth keeping an eye on Thursday, as the two young starters impressed after reaching Single-A San Jose last summer. Martinez, 21, logged a 2.86 ERA over six appearances (three starts) at San Jose, while De La Torre, 22, pitched to a stellar 1.77 ERA over eight starts at the same level.

Roster details

Spring Breakout rosters were constructed in two phases in 2026. Clubs initially submitted their preliminary 40-man player pools on March 5, which were then pared down to the official rosters on March 18. The rosters were assembled using MLB Pipeline's Top 30 Prospects lists, plus additional prospects submitted by the club.
