Here's the D-backs' Spring Breakout roster (Sat., 4:30 p.m. MST)

1:43 AM UTC

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- The first two years of Spring Breakout games have provided some memorable moments.

There was the throw by center fielder Druw Jones two years ago that gave Arizona fans their first in-person look at why the Diamondbacks believe he could handle center defensively in the big leagues right now.

And last year, LuJames Groover showed why the team is so high on his offensive potential, while shortstop Cristofer Torin and second baseman Demetrio Crisantes displayed some nifty up-the-middle defense.

This year, who will stand out remains to be seen, but plenty of Arizona’s top prospects will be taking the field for the game.

Here’s what you need to know about the Diamondbacks' Spring Breakout game this year:

What is Spring Breakout?

In 2026, MLB Spring Breakout will again be a four-day event showcasing baseball’s future -- the current stars of Minor League Baseball – in 16 exhibition games played between teams composed of each MLB organization’s top prospects. The third edition will be held from March 19-22 at Grapefruit and Cactus League stadiums during Spring Training.

In 2027, Spring Breakout will be expanded into a single-elimination tournament format, with champions being crowned in both the Grapefruit and Cactus leagues.

When is the Diamondbacks’ game?

Saturday beginning at 4:30 p.m. MST the Diamondbacks’ top prospects will square off against the Rockies’ top prospects at Salt River Fields. The game follows a 1:10 p.m. MST contest against the Rangers in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Notable position players

The Diamondbacks' top two prospects, outfielder Ryan Waldschmidt (No. 1) and shortstop Kayson Cunningham (No. 2), are on the active roster. Waldschmidt impressed in big league camp with the Diamondbacks both at the plate and in the outfield before being sent out. This will be local Arizona fans' first look at Cunningham, who was the organization’s top pick (18th overall) in last year’s MLB Draft. The 19-year-old made his pro debut last year at Single-A Visalia, where he appeared in 11 games.

Notable pitchers

Right-hander Patrick Forbes, who was selected with the 29th overall pick last year, is on the roster. Ranked as the organization's No. 9 prospect, Forbes did not pitch last summer after signing with Arizona. Another pitcher, Brian Curley, who was picked in the third round last year and is ranked as the organization’s No. 22 prospect, could make his pro debut in the game.

Why are certain top prospects not listed on the roster?

Right-hander Cristian Mena is eligible to play, but he has been shut down this spring after experiencing an issue with his teres major muscle. Mena, ranked as Arizona’s No. 11 prospect, had been a candidate to make the Diamondbacks' Opening Day roster as a reliever.

Roster details

Spring Breakout rosters were constructed in two phases in 2026.
