BILOXI, MS – Minor League Baseball announced today that Biloxi Shuckers infielder Andrew Fischer has been named the Southern League Player of the Week. The award is the second of Fischer’s career after previously being named the Midwest League Player of the Week on May 10, 2026. Fischer is the third Shucker to be named Southern League Player of the Week, joining Blake Burke and Damon Keith.
In six games against the Birmingham Barons this past week at Keesler Federal Park, Fischer went 6-for-16 with 4 home runs, 11 RBI and 10 walks. Fischer reached base in 16 of 27 plate appearances during the series. During the Shuckers 12-game homestand, Fischer was 12-for-32 (.375) with 8 home runs, 19 RBI and 13 walks.
Fischer enters today with 46 home runs, tied for the 5th-most home runs by a minor league player in the Modern Era (since the 1963 reorganization). It marks the most in a season since 2004, when Ryan Howard recorded 46. Fischer, who leads the minors in home runs, is looking to become the first Milwaukee Brewers minor league hitter to lead the minors in the category since Bill Foley (34) achieved the feat in 1978 with the Class-A Burlington Bees. Fischer is also 4 home runs away from recording the first 50 home run season in Minor League Baseball since 1982.
