COLUMBUS, GA – Behind eight unanswered runs between the ninth and 10th innings, the Biloxi Shuckers (55-44, 20-14) earned manager Mike Guerrero his 1,500th career win, 11-9, against the Columbus Clingstones (45-53, 16-18) on Tuesday night at Synovus Park. Guerrero becomes the sixth active manager in Minor League Baseball to reach the mark and the second in the Milwaukee Brewers’ organization, joining Nashville Sounds manager Rick Sweet. The game also saw a two-home run performance from Mark Coley II and Marco Dinges’ first Double-A home run.
The Shuckers struck first when an error on a double steal allowed Jesús Made to score from third, making it 1-0. The Clingstones struck back in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single from Owen Carey and a two-RBI double from Jordan Groshans, making it 3-1. In the second, Mark Coley II tied the game with a two-run home run to left. The Clingstones then took a 9-3 lead with six unanswered runs, starting with a sacrifice fly from Carson Taylor in the fifth and five runs in the seventh, including an error that allowed two runs to score on a John Gil single, a two-run home run from Taylor and an RBI double from Adam Zebrowski. The Shuckers stormed back with a six-run ninth inning to tie the game, including RBI singles from Andrew Fischer and Josh Adamczewski, an RBI fielder’s choice from Matthew Wood, and a three-run, game-tying home run from Mark Coley II, his second of the night. Marco Dinges gave the Shuckers the lead for good in the 10th with a two-run home run to right-center, his first at the Double-A level. Edwin Jimenez (1-1) earned the win while Tyler LaPorte (0-3) took the loss. Sam Garcia also earned his third save of the season with a scoreless 10th inning.
At the plate, Jesús Made (3-for-4), Blake Burke (4-for-6), Josh Adamczewski (2-for-5) and Mark Coley II (2-for-5) each recorded multi-hit performances. Made reached base five times in the win, with three hits and two walks, extending his on-base streak to 16 consecutive games. Burke’s four-hit night extended his on-base streak to 21 consecutive games.
The series continues on Wednesday, with first pitch scheduled for 6:06 p.m. at Synovus Park. Jaron DeBerry (7-5, 4.48) is slated to start for the Shuckers against Braden Scott (2-0, 3.97) for the Clingstones.
