BILOXI, MS– The Biloxi Shuckers (54-44, 19-14) were beat by the Montgomery Biscuits (51-49, 17-15), 20-3 in a Sunday series finale at Keesler Federal Park. The two teams finished the six-game set to combine for a ballpark record 119 runs, 24 doubles, and 41 home runs.
A pair of homers got the Biscuits’ scoring started in the first off the bat of Austin Overn for a leadoff shot, and a two-run blast from Xavier Issac. In the second, Marco Dinges drove in his first Double-A RBI on his first extra-base hit as a Shucker, and Jesús Made deadlocked the game at three in the third with a two-run opposite field home run, 96 mph off the bat on a ball that traveled 359 feet. Montgomery went onto score 17 unanswered runs, which started with an Issac sacrifice fly, an Overn steal of home, and a Will Simpson RBI double in the fifth. The sixth consisted of a Cooper Kinney sacrifice fly, RBI walks for Issac and Mac Horvath, and a grand slam by Kenny Piper. Horvath scored on an error in the eighth, which was followed by an Overn three-run triple and the second long bomb from Issac to drive home three more.
Jesús Made (2-for-5, 2rbi) added another multi-hit and multi-RBI performance to his tally, with Josh Adamczewski (2-for-2) adding on a pair of hits as well and reaching base all four times. Made’s 31st multi-hit night marks the most by any player in the Southern League this season.
Ryan Birchard (1.0ip, 0r, 1k) recorded a scoreless frame out of the Biloxi bullpen.
Garrett Edwards got his second win of the series, with Chandler Welch on the downside.
The Shuckers fell in a series for the first time in the second half and the first time since the start of May. The team is idle Monday before they head way down yonder on the Chattahoochee to clash with the Columbus Clingstones (Atlanta Braves) for the final time in the regular season.
