BILOXI, MS – The Biloxi Shuckers (55-54, 20-24) fell to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (64-49, 28-16), 7-3, at Keesler Federal Park on Saturday night. During the game, the Shuckers played as the Biloxi Mudbugs for the third time this season, honoring the crawfish history on the Gulf Coast. Braylon Payne, in his Double-A debut, reached base three times, including a single, a pair of walks and two stolen bases.
The Shuckers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI groundout from Andrew Fischer, scoring Dylan O’Rae from third. The Blue Wahoos took a 4-1 lead with four unanswered runs across the second and third, including an RBI single from Connor Caskenette, a two-RBI single from Colby Shade and a single and a throwing error that allowed Juan Matheus to score from second in the third. The Shuckers made it 4-2 in the fourth with an RBI double from Daniel Guilarte. An inning later, an RBI double from Brandon Compton and a two-run home run from Fenwick Trimble made it 7-2. The Shuckers scored their final run in the sixth on an RBI single from Daniel Guilarte, his second hit of the night. Jacob Kisting (2-0) earned the win while Bishop Letson (5-6) took the loss.
Damon Keith (2-for-4) and Daniel Guilarte (2-for-3) each recorded multi-hit nights for the Shuckers. Out of the bullpen, Jack Seppings turned in 4.0 shutout innings with three strikeouts in his return to Double-A.
The series concludes on Sunday, with first pitch on 5:05 p.m. Jaron DeBerry (7-6, 4.79) is slated to start for the Shuckers against Joey Volini (0-2, 4.08) for the Blue Wahoos. The Shuckers conclude their homestand with Family Sunday presented by Chicken Salad Chick and an appearance from Paw Patrol.
