Shuckers Silenced by Smokies to Split Series

Biloxi Falls in Series Finale to Knoxville

BILOXI, MS – The Biloxi Shuckers (59-63, 24-33) were smoked by the Knoxville Smokies (67-58, 29-27) 12-2 on Sunday night at Keesler Federal Park.

The Smokies struck for the game’s first six runs after an Edgar Alvarez solo shot in the second, and a pair of base knocks in the third from Alex Ramírez and a 2-RBI single for Alvarez, plus a two-run triple for Alex Madera. The Shuckers scored their only two runs of the ballgame in the home half of the third with Braylon Payne’s second long bomb in Double-A, 104 mph off the bat, going 395 feet, and a Damon Keith run-scoring single. Knoxville brought six more runs home before the contest concluded, including a Dom Krupinski double and a Miguel Useche base knock, both of which plated a pair in the sixth, in addition to an Alverez RBI two-bagger and an Ariel Armas sacrifice fly in the ninth.

Josh Adamczewski (2-for-4), Mike Boeve (2-for-3), and Braylon Payne (3-for-5) all posted multi-hit performances. For Boeve, it marked his 30th of the season, only trailing Jesús Made (32) for the team lead.

Yenrri Rojas recorded the win, while Peyton Niksch (0-1) took the loss. Ryan Birchard twirled two scoreless frames and tied a season-high with five strikeouts.

The Shuckers stay at home for six more games, beginning on Tuesday, September 1 against the Birmingham Barons at Keesler Federal Park. This marks the last series to see the Shuckers at home before postseason play.
