FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Fort Wayne TinCaps pushed Thursday night’s game against the Dayton Dragons (Reds affiliate) to 10 innings but did not come out on top in the 9-3 loss at Parkview Field.
Fort Wayne (50-71, 23-32) started their scoring in the second inning on an RBI double from designated hitter Lamar King Jr. (No. 27 Padres prospect). King Jr reached base safely in three of his four trips to the plate, including a game-tying single with one out in the eighth frame.
Third baseman Kerrington Cross tagged his fifth home run of the season with the ‘Caps in the sixth inning. The leadoff shot went to the opposite field and gives him a knock in four of his last five games. Cross is batting .375 dating back to last Tuesday with a .960 OPS in 32 at-bats.
Dayton (63-58, 24-31) got on the board early with three runs in the first two innings. Three doubles in the opening frame drove home a pair, with the RBI knocks coming from catcher John Michael Faile and second baseman Eric Becker (Reds No. 7 prospect). Center fielder Kyle Henley launched a solo home run in the second inning in his first game back off the Injured List.
The Dragons would not score again until the 10th inning, when they put the game away for good. Dayton sent eight batters to the plate and scored six runs on four hits. The biggest swing of the bat came from first baseman Ty Doucette, who clobbered a grand slam over the right-field fence. It is the fourth home run for Doucette in 17 games with the Dragons this year, and he now has a hit in his last eight showings.
