FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Fort Wayne TinCaps won the final night game of the 2026 season, 4-1 at Jackson Field, against the Lansing Lugnuts (Athletics affiliate).
Fort Wayne (55-74, 28-35) starter Winyer Chourio (No. 15 Padres prospect) struck out six batters across five scoreless innings. The 22-year-old from Merida, Venezuela, allowed three hits and four walks, but stranded seven runners, at least one in every inning.
Southpaw Javier Chacon stranded five himself across three scoreless innings, tying a season-high with six strikeouts. The 23-year-old from Havana, Cuba, tossed a season-high 59 pitches, keeping a shutout intact through eight innings.
Offensively, the 'Caps got on the board in the second inning on an error by third baseman Daniel Bucciero (No. 30 Athletics prospect). The next inning, Kerrington Cross drove an RBI double to right-center field, scoring Ryan Gerety. Cross ended the night 4-for-4 with three doubles, his second four-hit performance of his professional career. Cross added an RBI single in the top of the fifth inning before taking away at least one run with a diving play down the line, throwing out Bucciero to end the inning.
Since August 18, the former Big 12 Player of the Year at Cincinnati is hitting .339 with nine extra-base hits and a .971 OPS across 17 games.
Lansing (56-72, 27-37) scored its lone run in the bottom of the ninth inning. Following a leadoff triple by Alex Fernandes, designated hitter Jake Reinisch hit an RBI double to center field, throwing away Fort Wayne's chance at their sixth shutout of the season. He extended his on-base streak to a Minor League-best 44 games.
