Lakeland musters just two hits in 7-0 defeat to Bradenton

The Lakeland Flying Tigers (52-58, 21-24) were held quiet at the plate, tallying only two hits in its 7-0 loss to the Bradenton Marauders (48-63, 17-29) on Saturday night at Joker Marchant Stadium.

Bradenton opened the scoring with one run in the second off starter Kelvis Salcedo. Cristian Jauregui smashed a solo shot to right field to give the Marauders a 1-0 lead. 

Bradenton scored four more runs off Salcedo in the fourth. Brent Iredale and Luke Scherrer singled to begin the inning and Raymond Mola reached on an infield single. Kendrick Herrera drove two runners in while another scored on an error before Herrera scored on a wild pitch to extend the lead to 5-0.

The visitors scored two more off reliever Leonardo Rossell in the fifth. Antonio Pimentel reached on a fielder's choice. Iredale reached on catcher’s interference, moving Pimentel to second. Both runners scored on a two-run single from Jauregui to push the lead to 7-0. 

Neither team scored the rest of the way, capping off a 7-0 Marauders win.

Bradenton starter Reinold Navarro (5-2) nabbed the win, going 5.0 shutout innings with six punchouts while allowing just one baserunner on a fifth-inning single. Salcedo (0-3) took the loss, surrendering a season-high five runs (four earned) on a season-high six hits while striking out a season-high six and walking one.

Lakeland will continue its quest for its first six-game series win since early May as they host the Marauders on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. LHP Grayson Grinsell (6-4, 5.46) will face off against Bradenton RHP Yonleg Gaetano (0-4, 4.41).
