Portland, Maine - The Portland Sea Dogs (17-14)(52-47) and the Harrisburg Senators (17-12)(51-47) traded blows all night, but the Senators eventually came out on top with the 9-6 win.
RHP Anthony Eyanson (4-0, 1.69 ERA) recorded a career-high 10 strikeouts in 4.2 innings of work, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks. Will Turner had a multi-hit night with a double and a home run, his eleventh of the season. Brooks Brannon was two-for-four with a double and a pair of RBI, scoring once.
Harrisburg struck first in the top of the first. Sam Petersen doubled, and Brandon Boissiere drove him in with an RBI single.
The Sea Dogs took the lead in the bottom of the third, after a Harrisburg error at third base allowed two runs to score with two outs.
After a scoreless fourth, the Senators tied the game 2-2 in the top of the fifth. Kervin Pichardo hit an RBI single to score Cortland Lawson.
Harrisburg added one more in the top of the sixth, Petersen walked a run home, and Lawson came through with a single to take a 4-2 lead.
Brooks Brannon answered in the bottom half, driving a two-RBI single to left field to score Ahbram Liendo.
Both teams hit two-run home runs in the seventh. Sam Brown did it first, and Turner responded in the bottom half.
The Senators came through with the go ahead hit in the top of the eighth, and the Sea Dogs came up empty in the bottom half, stranding runners on second and third.
With the Sea Dogs bullpen low on arms, they sent outfielder Matt Fraizer to the mound in the top of the ninth, trailing by just one run. Frazier gave up two runs on two hits and two walks, but struck out two batters, and stranded the bases loaded.
The Sea Dogs loaded the bases in the bottom half but could not come up with a response, falling 9-6 in a game that lasted over three and a half hours.
RHP Thomas Schultz (2-4, 4.93 ERA) earned the win, allowing two runs on two hits in 1.0 innings pitched. The loss went against RHP Reidis Sena (1-3, 4.10 ERA), who allowed three runs on five hits and a walk in 2.2 innings pitched.
On Saturday, the Sea Dogs will take the field as the Maine Whoopie Pies, their third alternate identity of the season. The Maine State Legislature named the whoopie pie the official Maine state treat in 2011. RHP Jedixson Paez (2-3, 4.08 ERA) will start for the Sea Dogs, while RHP Yoel Tejeda Jr. (0-1, 5.40 ERA) is set to start for the Senators. First pitch is at 6:00 pm with postgame fireworks to follow, presented by Emerson Toyota.
