Roman Anthony to Join Sea Dogs on Major League Rehab Assignment Tuesday

Red Sox outfielder returns to Portland for Major League rehab assignment

Portland, Maine — The Boston Red Sox have announced that outfielder Roman Anthony is expected to join the Portland Sea Dogs on a Major League rehab assignment beginning Tuesday, August 18th, at Delta Dental Park at Hadlock Field when the Sea Dogs host the Reading Fightin Phils at 6:00 PM.

Anthony, 22, has appeared in 30 games for the Red Sox this season, batting .229 (25-for-109) with five doubles, one triple, one home run, five RBI, 12 runs scored, 20 walks, and two stolen bases.  Anthony has been sidelined since early May 4th.

Anthony was selected in the second round of the 2022 MLB Draft by the Boston Red Sox. He spent part of the 2023 and 2024 seasons with the Sea Dogs. In 2023, Anthony played 10 games in Portland, batting .343 (12-for-35) with four doubles, one home run, eight RBI, eight walks, and three steals. Following the season, he was recognized as the Red Sox’ minor league hitter of the year.

In 2024, Anthony was named the Sea Dogs MVP, hitting .269 (87-for-323) with 20 doubles, three triples, and 15 home runs, plus 45 RBI, 48 walks, and 16 steals in 84 games. During the season, he was ranked by Baseball America as the number one prospect in Minor League Baseball.
