Rumble Ponies Run Wild in 13-5 Win Over Sea Dogs

Portland, Maine - The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (19-22)(46-64) continued their offensive hot streak with a 13-5 win over the Portland Sea Dogs (22-19)(57-52), their ninth straight win. 

Yoeilin Cespedes smashed his first Double-A home run over the Maine monster. In the same inning, Nelly Taylor followed that up with his sixth homer of the season to straightaway center field. Nate Baez had his third straight multi-hit game with a single, a double and a run scored. 

Two-time reigning Eastern League Player of the Week Mitch Voit led off the game with a double for the Rumble Ponies, setting the tone for yet another major day at the plate for Binghamton. He came around to score on a Rojas sacrifice fly.

The Rumble Ponies added five runs in the top of the second inning against LHP Jeremy Wu-Yelland and RHP Joe Vogatsky on four hits and two walks including a Chris Suero solo home run.

The visiting squad proceeded to plate one more run in each of the third and fourth innings.

Trailing 8-0, the Sea Dogs found some life in the bottom of the fifth inning, plating four runs on the two homers from Cespedes and Taylor, with a single by Baez and a walk by Max Ferguson. 

Binghamton responded and more in the top of the sixth, plating five runs on five hits. Yohairo Cuevas, Emilien Pitre, Jefferson Rojas and Jacob Reimer all singled. Billy Amick put the exclamation point on the inning with a three-run home run, and the Rumble Ponies led 13-4.

The Sea Dogs added one more in the bottom half. Ronald Rosario singled, advanced to third on a wild pitch and a passed ball, and scored on a Mason White sacrifice fly, cutting the lead to 13-5.

RHP Steven Brooks dealt scoreless seventh and eighth innings in his second Double-A appearance.

RHP Gary Gill Hill (2-0, 3.27 ERA) earned the win, allowing five runs, four earned, on five hits and one walk with five strikeouts in 6.0 innings pitched. LHP Jeremy Wu-Yelland (2-1, 7.08 ERA) shouldered the loss, allowing five runs on three hits and two walks with one strikeout in just 1.1 innings of work.

Tomorrow night, the Sea Dogs celebrate 90’s night presented by Binnie Media & 107.5 Frank, Bark in the Park presented by Mainely Veterinary Dentistry & Urgent Care, and Brunswick Community Night. They will take the field in their throwback teal pinstripe uniforms, presented by KeyBank. LHP Hayden Mullins (3-3, 5.26 ERA) will face RHP Dakota Hawkins (1-1, 9.00 ERA), with first pitch scheduled for 6:00 pm at Delta Dental Park.
