Portland, Maine — The Portland Sea Dogs will host Hockey Night at the ballpark on Wednesday, September 9, when they host the Binghamton Rumble Ponies at 6:00 PM
The evening will celebrate Maine’s hockey community and feature appearances by the Maine Mariners and their mascot, Beacon, along with a Teddy Bear Drive benefiting Toys for Tots.
Maine Mariners forward Sebastion Vidmar will throw out the ceremonial first pitch and will be available for autographs from 4:45 to 5:15 PM in the concourse.
Fans attending the game are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped teddy bear to the ballpark to donate to Toys for Tots, helping provide gifts to local children during the holiday season.
Adding some Stanley Cup excitement to the evening, the Sea Dogs will also recognize South Berwick, Maine native Mike Brown, Manager of Team Services for the Stanley Cup Champion Carolina Hurricanes. Brown will be in Maine as part of his day with the Stanley Cup and will be honored by the Sea Dogs during the evening’s festivities.
Brown is entering his 17th season working in the National Hockey League and his third as the Hurricanes’ Manager of Team Services. In his role, Brown oversees the team’s extensive logistical needs, including travel, hotels, meals, and player services. Prior to moving into team services, he spent six seasons working in the Hurricanes’ communications department after joining the organization in 2018.
Before joining Carolina, Brown spent eight seasons with the Boston Bruins as a member of the communications game night staff. He also served as a communications intern during the Bruins’ 2010-11 Stanley Cup championship season. His sports industry experience also includes time with the New England Sports Network (NESN), Hockey East Association, and Northeastern University’s athletic department.
A native of South Berwick, Maine, Brown is a graduate of Northeastern University’s School of Journalism. His return to Maine with the Stanley Cup offers a special opportunity to recognize a Mainer whose professional hockey career now includes championship runs with two NHL organizations.
Hockey Night at the Ballpark will bring together Maine’s baseball and hockey communities, celebrate the state’s passion for sports, and support a great community cause.
