The Force Wasn’t With Us: Rumble Ponies Defeat Sea Dogs, 14-2

Portland, Maine - The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (21-23)(48-65) continued their hot streak with a 14-2 win over the Portland Sea Dogs (23-21)(58-54), clinching the series in front of another sellout crowd on Star Wars Night at Delta Dental Park.

Portland recorded four hits on the night from Tyler McDonough, Will Turner, Yoeilin Cespedes, and Ahbram Liendo. 

Binghamton opened the scoring with a five spot in the third inning, powered by five total hits and a pair of home runs from Kevin Parada and Billy Amick.

The Sea Dogs responded in the fourth inning, taking advantage of a Binghamton error to score a pair of runs on a Max Ferguson groundout and a Liendo infield single. 

A pair of doubles from Jacob Reimer and John Bay added another run on the board for the Rumble Ponies in the fifth.

In the sixth, Binghamton sent nine batters to the plate, scoring four more runs on two hits, three walks, and a fielder’s choice.

The Rumble Ponies were not done yet, driving in two more runs in each of the eighth and ninth innings, helped along by a pair of Sea Dogs errors. 

RHP Carlos Guzman (4-1, 2.25 ERA) earned the win, dealing two perfect innings with one strikeout. LHP Michael Sansone (3-3, 5.89 ERA) was tagged with the loss, allowing five runs on six hits and three walks with six strikeouts in 4.0 innings pitched.

The series wraps up on Sunday with Backyard Baseball Day, as the Sea Dogs recreate the classic video game in live action. The Sea Dogs are also celebrating Senior Appreciation Day presented by United Healthcare, with Kids Run The Bases postgame, presented by Aquaboggan. RHP Morgan McSweeney (0-0, 22.50 ERA) is set to face RHP R.J. Gordon (3-7, 5.19 ERA), with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 pm.
