Worcester, MA – The Worcester Red Sox pounded out 12 hits for the third straight game and scored 10 runs for the second game in a row as they continued their winning ways with a 10-4 victory over the Lehigh

Valley IronPigs on Thursday afternoon before a matinee crowd of 6,970 at Polar Park. 

The win pushed Worcester to a season-high 10-games over .500 on the season at 58-48.  The WooSox – coming off their best July ever (16-7) - remain hot starting August at 4-1 and having won 6 of their last 7 games overall, 9 of their last 10 home games, and going 13-2 since July 22. 

The WooSox used a 4-run, 6th-inning to snap a 2-2 tie and never looked back in improving to 22-13 in the 2nd half.  The winning uprising came when SS Franklin Arias, who went 1-for-4 with 2 RBI to extend his hitting streak to 8 games, led the 6th with a walk.  CF Nate Eaton followed with a bunt single and, an out later, DH Allan Castro crushed a 2-run double to give the Sox a 4-2 advantage.  With two outs, 3B Vinny Capra ripped a 2-run HR (#8) to double the lead to 6-2.

Capra, who finished with two hits and three runs scored on the day, now has the longest hitting streak for a WooSox player this season at 12-games (19-for-44, .463).  Castro also had 2 hits along with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored while 1B Nathan Hickey led the hit parade going 3-for-4 with a run scored.  Eight of the Sox starting nine had at least one hit and all nine had either a hit or RBI.   

After two scoreless innings, the clubs traded runs in the 3rd.  In the top half, Dylan Moore (2 hits, RBI, run) doubled and scored on an RBI single by Colby Thomas to give the Pigs a 1-0 lead.  Worcester answered in the bottom half.  Capra led with a walk and raced to 3rd on a sharp single to right by Hickey.  Tsung-Che Cheng then laid down a perfect safety squeeze bunt to plate Capra with the tying run.

The WooSox took the lead in the 4th on a wall ball double by red-hot Kristian Campbell (20-game on-base streak) as the 24-year-old LF just missed a home run off the Worcester Wall in rightfield but with two outs scored Castro (single) from 1st base with the go-ahead run.    

Eduardo Rivera made a spot start for the WooSox and did his job – 3.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 2 SO.  Seth Martinez (3-2) was next and got credit for the win – 2.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R.

The WooSox, who lead the series, 2 games to 1, will send lefty Alec Gamboa (2-3, 3.47) to the mound in Game 4 on Friday night at 6:45 pm.  The IronPigs will go with RHP Alan Rangel (3-5, 4.22).  It will be another UniBank Fireworks Friday with the post-game spectacular set to the music of the Beatles.  The game is live on NESN+ and can be heard on NASH 98.9 FM.
