Colombia vs Canada. The Gateway to South America vs The Great White North.
One might say hockey is Canada’s No. 1 sport (although pitcher Tyler O’Neil would beg to differ). One might say soccer is Colombia’s (although the first Latino player to ever play in MLB was from the nation).

Team results: Canada is playing in its first game, while Colombia is 0-1 after being shut out by Puerto Rico in its first game.

What’s at stake: Cuba is 1-0 after beating Panama on Friday (0-1), while Puerto Rico is 1-0 and Colombia is 0-1. Canada has yet to play a game.
Matchup history: These two teams have played one another in each of the last two World Baseball Classics. Colombia, somewhat of an underdog, shocked Canada with a solid 4-1 win in the 2017 Classic. Teheran, who got the win in that game, will face Canada again today nearly 10 years later. Canada blanked Colombia in the most recent iteration in 2023, 5-0, behind solid pitching and a homer by current shortstop Otto Lopez.
