LATEST NEWS

May 31: 1B activated from 10-day injured list; INF optioned to Triple-A Nashville
Hoskins returned to action without a Minor League rehab assignment after missing 15 games with a strained right hamstring. He served as the designated hitter in his first game back but is healthy enough to play first base as soon as Saturday, manager Pat Murphy said.

"Rhys is back. It's huge, just because of who he is," Murphy said. "It's not just the experience and the ability, it's who he is. It helps us, another right-handed bat and a power bat and a quality at-bat. It's not a swing and miss kind of thing. It's a good at-bat and the league knows it. It helps the lineup. I just love how he competes."

May 29: RHP (elbow) avoids injured list for now
Megill deemed himself day to day on Wednesday, which qualified as promising news after he was struck on the right forearm by a comebacker in Tuesday’s loss to the Cubs. He came on in the 10th inning of Milwaukee's 6-3 loss in 10 innings, and was struck on the arm near his pitching elbow by a line drive off the bat of Mike Tauchman. The situation appeared serious as Megill immediately left the game, but X-rays revealed no fracture. He was able to play catch on Wednesday afternoon and hopes to miss only two to three days.

“He squared it up and it smoked me, but it hit me on the forearm on a meaty spot so I’ll be all right,” Megill said. “The X-ray came back negative, so that’s always good. I just need to throw and get through the process and I should be back sooner rather than later. … It’s swollen, but these little pain pads they give us do wonders. It could be a lot worse.”

10-DAY/15-DAY INJURED LIST

LHP (left knee sprain)
Expected return: Likely June
Hall, who'd been struggling to establish himself as a starter before he tweaked his left knee fielding a bunt in a long second inning of Milwaukee's April 20 win over St. Louis, has been making steady progress since the calendar flipped to May. He made one-inning rehab starts for High-A Wisconsin on May 19 and Triple-A Nashville on May 23, when he caught a cleat late in his outing and tweaked his left knee. Hall had an MRI on May 27, and the team is awaiting results.

Assuming he's healthy and able to continue his progression, one possibility is that Hall rejoins the Major League roster to continue building his pitch count as a multi-inning reliever, like Brandon Woodruff and Corbin Burnes did early in their careers. (Last updated: May 28)

RHP (low back strain)
Expected return: TBD
Ross was placed on the IL on May 21 after he exited his May 20 start having thrown just one inning (15 pitches). This is his first experience with a low back issue. He and the Brewers are hopeful it will be a short stint. (Last updated: May 21)

60-DAY INJURED LIST

RHP (right shoulder inflammation)
Expected return: Mid-June
Bukauskas' injury occurred where his triceps connects to his shoulder region, he said, which is why he originally believed it to be a lat injury similar to others he has endured in his pitching career.

The Brewers transferred Bukauskas to the 60-day IL on May 10 and he resumed playing catch on May 17. He's scheduled to travel with the Brewers to Philadelphia for their June 3-5 series for one more bullpen session before going to the club's complex in Arizona to face hitters. (Last updated: May 31)

RHP (head, right shoulder)
Expected return: Mid-June
Junis' comeback from a right shoulder injury in early April was interrupted when he was stretchered off of the field on April 22 after being struck in the neck by a batting practice ball. He was alert and responsive when sent to a local hospital for observation.

After resuming throwing and building up via a series of bullpen sessions, Junis departed for the club's complex in Arizona on May 30 to begin facing hitters. The Brewers face a decision about whether to stretch him out as a starter or bring him back to the bullpen. (Last updated: May 31)

OF (fractured left index finger)
Expected return
: As soon as June 17
Mitchell, injured while taking batting practice the weekend before Opening Day, expects to travel to the Brewers' complex in Phoenix on June 3 to face live pitching and complete his comeback to game action. If he passes all those tests, Mitchell could rejoin the Brewers as soon as their June 17-19 series at the Angels.

The 25-year-old was in line to be Milwaukee's starting center fielder and leadoff hitter in 2024, and he could still slot into those roles upon his return. (Last updated: May 31)

RHP (back stress fractures)
Expected return: Late July
The Brewers' closer played catch on May 18, marking his first significant step since he was diagnosed with two stress fractures in his back in mid-March. Williams said he is on schedule and hopes to be back pitching in the Majors by late July.

Williams, who won the Trevor Hoffman Award as the best closer in the National League with 36 saves and a 1.53 ERA last season, gave up four runs, four walks and two hits in two appearances over 1 1/3 innings this spring. (Last updated: May 18)

LHP (torn UCL)
Expected return: 2025
Miley will miss the remainder of 2024 due to UCL surgery, which typically requires a 10- to 12-month rehab. The surgery was completed on May 7 in Cincinnati, with Dr. Timothy Kremchek operating. Miley underwent testing April 23 on his left elbow to try to diagnose inflammation that he said felt different from the usual bone spurs-related pain he has tried to manage for the past three to four years, and the results initially came back inconclusive on April 24.

Miley flew to Cincinnati that day to have an in-person meeting with doctors and undergo an arthrogram to assess the integrity of the ligaments in the region, which confirmed the structural damage. He was transferred to the 60-day IL on April 30. (Last updated: May 7)

RHP (right shoulder)
Expected return: Late 2024 or 2025
Woodruff underwent shoulder surgery on his throwing arm in October 2023 and was non-tendered by the Brewers the following month. He signed a two-year deal with the club on Feb. 21, when he was placed on the 60-day IL, and will rehab in Milwaukee throughout the season after beginning a throwing program in mid-February.
