LATEST NEWS

June 14: SS returns from rehab assignment and reinstated from 10-day injured list; INFs , optioned to Triple-A Sacramento
Ahmed returned to the starting lineup at shortstop on Friday after missing 30 games with a left wrist sprain. To clear a spot on the 26-man roster for Ahmed, the Giants sent down Schmitt, who was hitting .220 with a .628 OPS and two homers over 12 games this season.

Luciano was also reinstated from the 10-day IL after completing his rehab from a right hamstring strain, but he was sent back to Triple-A Sacramento after committing five errors in nine games at shortstop. The 22-year-old rookie looked comfortable at the plate, going 9-for-24 (.375) over 10 games prior to the injury, but the Giants will want to see some defensive improvement before they consider bringing him back to the Majors.

While Ahmed opened the season as the Giants' primary shortstop, the 34-year-old veteran is now likely to be platooned with the left-handed-hitting Brett Wisely, who entered Friday hitting .317 with an .800 OPS and two home runs in 21 games this year.

10-DAY/15-DAY INJURED LIST

LHP (left groin strain)
Expected return: Possibly late June
Snell was placed on the 15-day injured list with a left groin strain on June 3, a day after he exited in the middle of an at-bat in the fifth inning against the Yankees. It's the second time Snell has been placed on the IL this season, as he also missed 25 games with another left adductor strain in April. He is scheduled to throw a bullpen session at Oracle Park on June 15. (Last updated: June 14)

1B (left hamstring strain)
Expected return: Possibly late June
Wade injured the hamstring after sliding into second base for a double in the Giants' May 27 win over the Phillies, and an MRI revealed a Grade 2 strain. He landed on the 10-day injured list on May 28 and is expected to miss around four weeks. Wade has resumed taking batting practice on the field and will increase his running progression over the weekend, leaving open the possibility that he could return to play in the Giants' historic matchup with the Cardinals at Rickwood Field on June 20. 60-DAY IL

RHP (left hip surgery)
Expected return: Second half
Cobb was progressing well in his rehab from offseason hip surgery, but he hit another setback when he felt mild shoulder irritation before throwing a bullpen session on April 16. Cobb, who was transferred to the 60-day injured list on April 20, attempted to resume throwing after that, but he was shut down again after continuing to experience soreness in his shoulder. He resumed a throwing progression after receiving some nerve medication and looked "really good" during a 25-pitch bullpen session at Oracle Park on June 11. He threw another 30-35 pitch bullpen on June 14, though he likely won't be a candidate to rejoin the Giants' rotation until after the All-Star break. (Last updated: June 14)

LHP (Tommy John surgery)
Expected return: Second half
Ray, who was acquired from the Mariners in exchange for outfielder Mitch Haniger and right-hander Anthony DeSclafani on Jan. 5, gave up three runs on four hits over 1 2/3 innings in his third rehab start in the Arizona Complex League on June 13. He will make his next ACL appearance on June 18. The Giants have been pleased with his progress so far, but he likely won't be ready to join the starting rotation until around the All-Star break. RHP (Tommy John surgery)
Expected return: June or July
Warren worked a scoreless inning in a rehab outing with Single-A San Jose on June 12 and will make his next appearance on June 15. The 28-year-old signed a one-year, $755,000 contract with the Giants on Feb. 14 and could help boost the bullpen once he's healthy. Warren recorded a 3.55 ERA over 32 career appearances for the Angels from 2021-23. (Last updated: June 14)

C (left knee sprain)
Expected return: July
Murphy felt a pop in his knee after going down to try to block a wild pitch in the second inning of the Giants' 14-3 loss to the Phillies on May 4 and was placed on the 10-day injured list the next day. An MRI exam revealed a Grade 1-2 sprain for Murphy, who is expected to be sidelined for four to six weeks. He was transferred to the 60-day IL on May 15 to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for fellow backstop Curt Casali. He has resumed taking batting practice in the cage and is throwing out to 110 feet.

Signed to a two-year, $8.25 million deal in December, Murphy hit .118 with one home run over his first 13 games with the Giants. (Last updated: June 14)

RHP (upper right arm aneurysm)
Expected return: Second half
Beck, 27, felt his hand go cold after throwing some bullpen sessions early in camp, prompting the Giants to send him back to San Francisco to be evaluated by team doctors on Feb. 27. He ended up visiting a vascular specialist at Stanford, who helped determine that an aneurysm -- an abnormal bulge or ballooning in the wall of a blood vessel -- was the source of the numbness. Beck was transferred to the 60-day injured list on March 3 and underwent surgery at Stanford the next day to address the issue.

Beck was cleared to resume full baseball activity after a follow-up appointment with Dr. Jason Lee on May 1. He is currently throwing out to 120 feet and will resume throwing off the mound next week. (Last updated: June 14)

CF (left shoulder dislocation)
Expected return: 2025
Lee suffered a season-ending torn labrum in his left shoulder crashing into the center-field fence on May 12 and had surgery on June 4. The club considered the procedure a success and said the typical timeline for recovery is six months. (Last updated: June 4)

LHP (moderate right oblique strain)
Expected return: Second half
Small is "still a ways away," manager Bob Melvin said on May 28, and has not responded well to throwing. He was acquired from the Brewers over the offseason and was in the running for a bullpen spot before sustaining the injury. (Last updated: May 28)
