Melky Cabrera's warm exchange with Eric Hosmer will feel familiar if you've caught up with a long-lost friend

Eric Hosmer broke into the league with the Royals in 2011 for his rookie year. That season was 26-year-old Melky Cabrera's first year in Kansas City, and the two formed a bond as Major Leaguers do.

But then the two floated away like two ships in the sea, one (Cabrera) caught in a current that would take him to the Giants, Blue Jays and White Sox before returning to K.C. in 2017, Hosmer's final year with the Royals before moving on to San Diego.

The pair clearly have a strong sense of familiarity between each other, which is all you need to know in order to appreciate this incredibly warm moment shared at first base in Thursday night's Pirates-Padres game from Petco Park.

There is no such thing as too much time between old friends.

So go ahead -- call that buddy of yours from high school that you've been thinking about lately. Catch up. He or she will probably be glad you did.
